#OOTDsketches (25)

Every couple of days I make a quick sketch of what I am wearing for the day, either as a warm-up or just to keep me loose if I don't have a lot of time to draw.  These drawings are scanned and posted on my blog every Wednesday.  Enjoy!

Left:: Do you have an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks?  This is one of those for me.  I feel so bold and confident when I pull on this bright skirt, and tucking in a lace top softens it just enough to make me feel normal.  You can't see it here, but my coral necklace finishes off the look!
Right:: I don't wear this top very often because it is a very dark green (darker than I got it in the drawing), but I love the way it fits me—it's a little big but drapes so nicely!

Left:: Spent the day with my mom and grandmother, finishing up some of our projects!  My Mom and Grandma both quilt and are absolutely wonderful at it!  I, on the other hand, only have the patience to do so many things in my life and quilting just doesn't fit at this point!  So I made some hats and finished a baby blanket.
Right:: My hubbard is HOME!  After a second week away for school, I was so thrilled to have him back with me.  We spent a quite day at home, unpacking and getting back into the groove.

Botanical Watercolor—Bathroom decor addition

I was feeling a watercolor this week, but since I have no watercolor style jobs at the moment, I had to satisfy myself with this quick botanical piece.
I'm not exactly thrilled with it.  Because I feel like it looks like bathroom art—you know what I mean? Can't you picture it as half of a diptych (2 piece artwork that hangs side by side) featured in your friendly neighborhood Arby's, on either side of the hand dryer? Yikes.
Can you see it?  Or do I pay too much attention to bathroom art? haha, maybe both!

A certain song was stuck in my head... can you guess?

#OOTDsketches (24)

Each Wednesday I post some sketches I did the week before of what I was wearing on that particular day.  I've been doing this on and off for the past few years and only recently mustered enough courage to share them with the world!  Here's what I wore last week:

Left: I began my accidental "all white" week with my white polka-dot blouse.  I love this thing—I don't wear patterns very often because I feel like bold patterns make my small frame look... weird and lop-sided.  Like a huge peony in a baby-vase.
Right: COLD FRONT!  Why is it so cold in mid July??  Sweater weather as we head out camping with my parents for a few days.

Left: Loving a (non-sandy/dirty) casual day after camping.  Throwing on one of my scarfs from Italy makes me feel pulled together even when I'm just wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
Right: My grand plan was to get up and clean the house—deep clean.  It was going to be intense.  And then I was like, "eh, maybe tomorrow."  Sporting my purple dress and favorite vest. (the cleaning did happen, btw—but not until Monday, hah)

In The Shop:: Illustrated Portraits & Save the Dates

Special "thank you" to my former roomie who allows me to continually use drawings of her for my props!
There's a new product in my Etsy shop!  It's a little late (okay, super late) in wedding season for this style of work, but I was working on a few things earlier last week when I made it and didn't feel like waiting for another year to reveal it—so here it is!

I am now offering more than just a custom portrait/couple illustration!  With this listing you will receive the custom digital portrait along with a set (5, 10, 15 or 20) of custom stationery to use either as your Save the Dates or for your Bridal Shower!

What I really love about this, is that you get the stationery along with the custom portrait—and since the portrait is on the opposite side of the event information, you can keep it long after the event has passed!  (perfect for the frame-happy aunts and grandmas ;) )

Digital Painting:: A Text Away

A little bit of digital painting on this #OOTDsketch that I did not include in Wednesday's post.  As someone who is not particularly attached to her phone on normal occasions, I found that I was not without it a moment while my husband was gone last week.
We were also waiting to hear back about a house we bid on {we were out-bid :( }, so between the two I was in constant suspense!

Now that we are back together, my phone is again sitting off to the side, almost abandoned, haha

#OOTDsketches (23)

Each Wednesday I post some sketches I did the week before of what I was wearing on that particular day.  I've been doing this on and off for the past few years and only recently mustered enough courage to share them with the world!  Here's what I wore last week:

Left:: Rather uneventful morning at church and then an afternoon soaking up all of the hubby that I could get before he left for a week of school.  Wore this top that I recently dug out and fell back in love with(it's clean-out time for clothes that I haven't worn!  You can buy some of my gently used items here).
Right:: Celebrated our 2nd anniversary about 60 miles apart while my wonderful husband tackled another class for his masters.  Deep cleaned the house and was too lazy after that to color my sketch in (a trend that continued throughout the week... unfortunately...)

Left:: Spent some time living at my parents while Todd was away.  The long shorts and flow-y-sleaved-top trend continued, this time in a blush pink.
Right:: Went out to lunch at Greenfield Village again—this time in one of my favorite gray dresses, that I got away with wearing twice this week! (but don't tell anyone, I have my reputation to think about you know)

Tshirt Design: Cross Country Camp (2014)

My husband coaches cross country and track, so each year I have the opportunity to create some fun T-shirt designs for the team! (view past designs here)  It's hard to believe that it is already time to order shirts for cross country, but the cross camp is just around the corner.

This was my original design, however after last year's tie-dye adventure, the students have their heart set on doing it again.  Unfortunately, now this full color design is less than ideal...

So I adjusted it:

Everything that is the medium gray will be the white Tshirt and will absorb the dye—while the design will remain as you see it here.

Branding: Upstream

I recently was given the opportunity of working on a branding team for a sermon series at Woodside Bible Church.
The title of the series is "Upstream", and the idea/theme behind it is that followers of Christ must move against the "steam" of the world/culture that we live in.  My challenge for this design was to convey the feeling of movement and "uphill" work while still remaining readable.  The design that was chosen had two variations, and the more conservative version was selected (which is not unusual and totally not a problem!).  However, since I did like my original thought, I decided to share it with you.  Maybe I'll do this more in the future...?

I preferred this design and the opportunity that I was given to play a little more with the typography

The design that is currently in use.  More readable while still conveying the idea of moving through space—think "Star Wars", haha

Which do you prefer? Am I too steeped in design to recognize when enough is enough? Or do you also prefer the typographic "play" created by the arrow in place of the "p"?

Which design do you prefer?

#OOTDsketches (22)

Each Wednesday I post some sketches I did the week before of what I was wearing on that particular day.  I've been doing this on and off for the past few years and only recently mustered enough courage to share them with the world!  Here's what I wore last week:

Left:  Wedding time!  Love this dress with the flowing skirt and the pockets.
Right:  Heavy work day as the hubs and I tired to catch up from the busy weekend away and prepare for another long weekend out of town.  I needed the loose top while I was running around like a crazy person

Left: Fireworks with some of our dear friends and the beginning of another crazy weekend!
Right: Serioiusly? More blue? Yeah... I promise I wore other colors on the days that I didn't draw... And another wedding—this one was for one of Hubbard's best friends and a lot of fun overall.

Anniversary #2

Today is our anniversary!  2 years ago today I officially captured the love of my life and we have been enjoying the adventure ever since!  I am fortunate enough to not only have a wonderful, Godly husband to share my life with—but also someone who shares my love for art and has a wonderful talent himself!  He is my faithful fan and most consistent critic (even when I don't want one, haha)

I did a quick portrait of us in honor of the occasion during a painting session that we shared last week. Unfortunately, while my pencil sketch displayed a likeness, I was too chatty to continue during my watercolor and didn't have the time to recreate. *sigh*  Maybe later :)
